Save the date for "Stronger After the Storm: Transforming Crisis into Opportunity" on September 9-11, 2026, cosponsored with the Society for Disaster Medicine and Public Health. The event will be held at the HRH Princess Chulabhorn Disaster and Emergency Medicine Center (CDEM), Chulabhorn Royal Academy, Bangkok, Thailand. Virtual access will also be available.

Conference focus areas will include community resilience and public engagement; trauma care, logistics and surge capacity; mental health support; and much more.

Registration and abstract submission will open on June 1.  

Board Elects Dallas and Usman as Chair and Vice-Chair

The SDMPH Board of Directors recently elected Cham E. Dallas, PhD, University of Georgia, as Board Chair, and Mahmood (Mike) A Usman, MD, MM, MPH, as Vice-Chair. Both Dr. Dallas and Dr. Usman agree on goals to increase and support membership, establish Standing Committees for key areas e.g., Membership, Meetings, Fundraising, and stressed the importance of strong leadership to meet the challenges of the increasing number of disasters and large-scale health emergencies.

Call for Papers

The protracted conflict in the Middle East has resulted in one of the most pressing humanitarian and public health crises of our time. Widespread displacement, mass-casualty incidents, infrastructure destruction, infectious disease outbreaks, workforce depletion, and long-term psychological trauma have strained local, regional, and global systems. The conflict has also highlighted critical gaps in emergency preparedness, protection of healthcare infrastructure, and the safety of humanitarian and medical personnel.
